Edit: Updated with a better scan. Right side is now more like the original.

No spoilers please as I've only just found this show! ;)

Nothing really special. Not meant to be overly realistic (yay I succeeded in that! ;) ). Just happy to have finally finished something again.
The scanner did not pick up all the details, especially from the right side (Jack).

Two things:
*Small faces. Why do I keep torturing myself like that??
*Different light sources. Not too distracting when I 'shopped the reference together, but not too successful in the end result of the drawing.

Materials:
- Hahnemühle Nostalgie A4 paper
- Reference(s)
- Tom Bow and Staedtler Mars pencils 2H through 6B
- Mechanical pencils H and B, 0.5 and 0.3 mm
- Blu-tack, Tom Bow Mono Zero eraser, regular eraser
- Homemade tortillions (that I like better than the premade ones!!) and cotton make-up removal pads for blending.

WIP:

Hope some of you enjoy this!!

Super job. I keep meaning to watch the series from the start of saeason one, I kind of started watching, but only got to see the last half of the first series and first half of season two before the tv network stopped my digital provider from screening it.

Thanks Carole. I'm liking it much better again now that I'm sort of over the rejections from groups I got on it. ;)

You really should try to see it somehow! It's such creative writing, really extraordinary!

I haven't updated it yet. At the moment, I'm waiting for a further response. I was told that my submission was declined because I'd submitted it three times (not true), and also that I'd resubmitted it after it had previously been declined (also not true, I submitted it a second time after the first one expired). Instead of saying 'our mistake, sorry', I've been told to resubmit it at a later date when they have more admin, but with no guarantee it will be accepted even then. I'm persisting in asking for a reason why it was declined, and I guess that makes me a nuisance :)

Great work, Nathalie! I think everything goes very well with each other in this "not-at-all-realistic" style! You did amazing with those small faces - it's very hard to draw them sometimes, especially here, with the men's beards.
Only the man on left is the one that catches less of my attention than the other two people. Maybe it's because of his bright hair (which is beautifully shaded ), so I think there's no need to care about it. :)
About those different light sources - if you didn't mention about it, I guess only very demanding people would notice.
The best part of this drawing is the woman, in my opinion. She has some fierce look in her face that makes her look fascinating. And the hair - amazing!
I love the lettering - how did you get this texture? Did you put something under the paper or what?

Thanks dear!!
One of these days these small faces will kill me. I'm sure of it!! I actually started in 3 times over and the others 2 and 2,5 times... :faint:
At least in the end I'm satisfied with the likeness I got, but starting over isn't exactly fun! ;)

I can certainly imagine the left guy demands less attention because of the lighter hair. Maybe also because his shading is just a tad less contrasted. Also a side-effect of the light source thing I mentioned. Those are just the discoveries you make along the way, I guess.

I'm glad you like the lady, as I really loved her expression too. All of them have a sort of worried expression, but hers also had a quality of defiance in it, which is exactly why I put her in the middle. I'm glad You're noticing that expression, as it was a really subtle thing of I wasn't sure I could get it right!

The sort of marble texture on the text was done with indenting! Before I put any graphite there, I used an old (empty!!) fine-liner to indent the paper where I wanted to keep the white. Then I went over it with my pencil keeping it relatively on its side, so that I wouldn't 'slip in' the little valleys I had created with my pencil point.
I actually did this too on the white hairs in the beards of the men, but that's mostly invisible in this scan.

Thanks for the support Oliwia!

3 times over! Kudos to your patience.
Unfortunately, I can't say anything about the likeness - I don't watch this show. :(

You surely got the lady's expression right! It must visible even for an not at all attentive observer. ;)

Oh, now I get how you did it! Nice idea.

You're very welcome, dear!

Thanks a lot Isaac! I'm really enjoying it, it's a real unique show for sure! The greatest part of discovering something so late, is that all the episodes are already out there and you don't have to wait in between seasons!! There's Lost now whenever I want! ;)

Aw thanks! Tried to make a drawing in a more of semi-realistic style rather than very realistic. Not everyone is too enthusiastic about that it seems, but oh well. You've got to try new things sometimes, right?

Hehehe indeed! The title of the show is very apt in more ways than one! ;)

Really i think its awesome how you tried a different perspective and went with semi-realism. It's not art without some creative ingenuity right?
Besides art is all about trying new styles
