Inevitable by LilaeaBluecoat Inevitable by LilaeaBluecoat
The title is a little less poetic than one might think. It seems everyone on here who's ever drawn anything, at least has one eye in their gallery, so me doing one was sort of...
;)

This drawing based on a reference by ~Becs-Stock

Materials used:
- Reference
- Newton & Windsor Bristol board (slightly smaller size than A5)
- Derwent pencils 2H-B
- Mechanical pencils 0.5 and 0.3 in H & B
- Kneaded eraser, Tombow Mono Eraser, Rubber Color Shaper
- Make-up pads, tissues, tortillion.

Thanks a lot! I honestly don't remember exactly, but it was quite long for such a relatively small sized drawing, so I'd say some 20+ hours?

This is stunning! May I ask how you did the skin texture? Did you shade it in and then go over it with an eraser? I can never seem to get my highlights bright enough that way! Very well done! :D

Thank you very much!
Yes, this is indeed a combination of shading and erasing (and for the skin texture below the eye, some circulism as well). If you feel you're not getting your highlights bright enough like that, you're probably trying to erase too late.
Lemme explain that.
I build up my shading in many layers. I start picking out my highlights right from the get-go, and do them again after the second layer, and after the third, etc... This way it's only one layer of graphite at a time you're erasing instead of 6 all at once. ;)
This can also create a nice extra dimension if you don't pick them áll out again and again and do a few more in each new layer.
Like say, on layers 1 you make highlights A B C and D. You apply a second layer of graphite and blend that. Now you (again) pick out highlights A and B again, but you leave C and D as they are now (which is still a highlight, but less light than the others). Do the same on layer 3, but also erase new highlights E and F, which will have yet a different colour than the previous ones.
That way you get a nice variety.
Hope all that made sense? ;)

Wow! Thanks for such a great tip! :D I'd never thought of doing it like that before. I will definitely be trying that technique out on my next drawing. Thank you so much! :)

You're welcome!
I should add, that this works best on really smooth paper like Bristol, because on rougher paper, you'll (too) quickly blend over the highlights you've laid out first.
Hope it works for you, let me know!

excellent iris and reflection! nevertheless her eyebrow looks a bit weird and the (in fact great) plasticity of her skin is slightly overdone. so it looks like fish scales...but altogether great work! :)

Thanks for the concrit! I'm curious to know what you find weird looking about the eyebrow? Always interested to hear what others 'see' that I might not!

You may be right about the skin. I think it has a lot to do with the make-up she was wearing which accentuated the folds in that place.

Thanks again!
